Create Your First | Blank Product: From Wholesale

What is a Wholesale Blank?

A Wholesale Blank represents an unprinted, manufactured product that is available from leading wholesale suppliers. Within the KornitX Platform, Wholesale Blanks have 'pre-configured' settings and exist to be duplicated by Fulfillers - this process ensures that Fulfillers can create and expand their own range of Blank Products in a fast and effective way.

Lets take a look at the key steps involved in creating your first Blank from Wholesale.
Top Tip: In this article we will be creating a DTG Shirt. You can also use the values in the screenshots to easily follow the steps and create your first Blank from Wholesale Product!

1. Create a New Product

  • Access the Catalog > Product Manager menu:

  • Click '+ New Product'.

  • From the pop-up Creation Menu, select 'Blank'

  • Within the Blanks menu, select 'From Wholesale'.

  • This will open the 'from Wholesale' creation wizard, which is a guided creation tool.
    • Step 1 - Select Wholesale Blanks - You will be taken to a library of the available Wholesale Blanks within the system, simply select the products you to fulfil orders for and click to continue.
Please note: You can filter the view to find specific products by searching via Name / SKU or filtering by Category, Wholesale Supplier or product Classification.

    • Step 2 - Select Category: The next step will ask for the Category location for the new Blanks to be added to after the duplication process.

    • Once the category has been specified the system will show a "Creating Products" screen which upon completion will offer the following options;
      • Multi-Edit: Review and edit the new Blank Products in a sequence
      • List: Filter and display all created Blank Products
      • Create More: Repeat the process to create more Blanks

Unlike a blank product there is no need to set a "Preview" as this is already present, we bypass this onto the next stage which is to add a Print Area.

2. Print

Print allows Fulfillers to specify and determine the size, layout, and volume of output files that the system will generate when an order is placed, as necessary for fulfilment purposes.

For each required output file, a Print Area has to be created on the product - this process allows specific output size values (in mm) and position the area in relation to the products on screen Preview. It is this process that connects the live preview and the artwork generation together.

Some DTG Wholesale Blanks feature predefined print settings based on recommended Kornit pallets - these can be used as they are or amended accordingly. For Wholesale Blanks that have no pre-define print settings, a Print Area must be added manually in accordance with the Fulfiller requirements.
Important Note: Print Areas do not offer any user functionality by default, they solely determine the output file and highlight the available personalisation area on-screen.

To create a Print Area

  • Click Print > Print Areas > + Print Area

  • Within the Print Area setup, you can specify:
    • Name
    • Aspect - the product preview that the Print Area is to be associated with. In this example we want to set the Print Area on the 'Front' Aspect.
    • Print Size (in mm) - this determines the size of the artwork files that the system generates. In this example we are using standard Kornit Pallet size of 396x498mm.
    • Preview Size (in pixels) - this determines the size of the personalisation area in relation to the product preview image. You can set the pixel sizes using the input fields, or interactively within the preview.

The goal here is to get a matching Aspect Ratio between the Print Size and Preview Size elements, thus connecting the preview to the artwork generation. The simplest way to do this is:
  1. Input your Print Size values in mm
  2. Copy the same values into the Preview Size fields. This will automatically give you a matching Ratio (note the size of the area in the interactive preview may be be incorrect).
  3. Use the interactive tools to position and uniformly scale the on screen Print area so that it 'fits' the on screen product preview.
Critical: Print Size (in mm) and Preview Size (in pixels) should share a matching AR to within a 0.05 tolerance threshold. Failure to do so will prompt an error message on any attempted save.

3. Print Test

The Print Test facility offers a test environment for you to review your product setup, but more importantly, generate example output files to ensure the Print is correct vs the on screen preview.
Important Note: Print Test is accessible at any stage during the product configuration. We highly encourage frequent testing to minimise the likelihood of any issues.
  • Print Test can be accessed from the Contextual Actions in the top right of the interface. The below is the correct button to press for this.

  • Clicking it loads a pop-up window showing the product preview and configured functionality.

4. Additional Steps

There are additional steps and setup tips to take into account. For example, the range of available colours is inherited from the wholesalers product - these colours can be amended on the new Blank to only display the ones you wish to stock/produce. To do so, use the following steps.
  1. Head to the the Preview menu to see the available Aspects.

  1. Expand the Front/Back Aspect the see the available colour options.

  1. Going through the different aspect options you can de-select them with the sliders which will disable these colours from being part of your Blank product offering.

  1. Ensure that the product aspects have been saved by clicking the "Save" button. Be sure to repeat the process for the same colours across the other aspects eg Back.

  1. Now when you run a print test you will only see the selected colours as shown below. This can be reversed by following the steps to enable again should you wish to stock these in future.

Please note that this is only applicable with Wholesale Blank products with multiple different aspect options, these steps can be ignored for those single colour items.
