Level 3: This article will presume product setup knowledge and familiarity with Text Area functionality
Overview
Hyphenation is an advanced text feature that automatically splits words at a suitable place to allow the content to 'fit' to a specified text Boundary width. This can be used with regular text input or placeholder text content. It is most commonly used to represent article text (eg that you may see in a newspaper column).
Critical: Hyphenation is currently compatible with Raster Artwork using the ACP app. It is only available for Multiline text areas using the following Horizontal Alignment options:
- Left Justify
- Center Justify
- Right Justify
- Full Justify
Top Tips: We recommend using Google fonts where possible as this will reduce compatibility issues.
How do I enable Hyphenation?
First, create your Multiline text area and select any of the 'Justify' options for Horizontal Alignment:
This will automatically enable the Hyphenation feature.
For the feature to work correctly, you must then specify a relevant Boundary. The boundary should be positioned to reflect the article that you wish to use - you can do this interactively by enabling the 'Show Boundary' option, and moving / resizing the blue boundary box box against your product preview.
Your Text Area start position should then be placed in the top left corner of the of the Boundary
How can I test it?
To review the functionality, open Print Test and add text to trigger the Hyphenation feature. Be sure to generate artwork files to ensure both preview and artwork are consistent and meet expectations.
Critical: Be sure to add real words - the Hyphenation feature uses an algorithm to split real words only - it may give odd results for random input with no spaces or odd combinations of characters.
